OPEN HOUSE SAFETY TIPS

Ever felt a little uncomfortable sitting in your client's vacant home all day waiting for strangers to stop by an take a tour? Follow the tips below for a safer open house.

-Have someone with you; a second Realtor, friend or loan officer
-Check all the rooms when you arrive
-Know the safe escape routes
-Unlock either the deadbolts or door locks which ever is harder to turn (if you are comfortable with unlocked doors you can unlock them all the way)
-Check to see if you can escape from the rear yard
-When the public arrives, jot down a description of the car and the people, take a picture on your phone and text the description to your office
-Check in with your office every hour
-Do not leave your purse, laptop, etc in the open
-You can call for police to do drive by while conducing the open house
-Place a sign at door stating "video surveillance is in use"

SELF-DEFENSE

Every female should take a self-defense class. It is as simple as that. Not only do will you learn to defend yourself in the event of an assault, you will gain self confidence and a feeling of empowerment. My self-defense seminar is unlike traditional classes, it is nothing like you have seen. When you walk out the door after the 3 hour seminar, you will know how to defend yourself. More importantly, you will know you know how to defend yourself. From one of the class participants “It helped me take the fear and nightmares away and replace them with a ‘don’t screw with me’ attitude”. If you can't take a class with me, take one somewhere. There are Girls on Guard seminars offered nationwide.

MODULE OVERVIEW

GIRLS ON GUARD

Module 1 – Teaches how to escape from the 12 most common sexual assault scenarios. This module shows how to defend against the completion of a rape by employing the defensive position. This module emphasizes the “stay with people” principle which is effective for attacks that occur in areas where it is imperative that you not be taken to a secondary location. At the end of the seminar participants will be able to practice what they have learned full-contact on our male co-instructor who will be wearing a thick protective suit. Aside from the co-instructor, there will be no men present at the seminar.

Module 2 – This module addresses date rape scenarios and provides the tactics and techniques to defend against an attack in a secluded area so it is possible to escape to a populated area. The emphasis of this module is the “go to people” principle and includes strikes, kicks and breakaway techniques to facilitate the escape. This module is designed to also address attacks (from subtle advances to overt physical challenges) in a social setting. At the end of the seminar participants will be able to practice what they have learned full-contact on our male co-instructor who will be wearing a thick protective suit. Aside from the co-instructor, there will be no men present at the seminar.
